Meet Jaya

Here’s an update from India! Meet Jaya, a student at Zest4Kidz partner school in Pune, India:

“Jaya was officially the first child to be admitted to Emmanuel School in Pune. She came when she was just 3yrs old. Jaya is the youngest of 5 sisters, who all work as house maids to make ends meet. Her mother works as one too. Jaya’s father left her mother and the girls when they were very young, and has had no part in their upbringing. Her mother aspired that at least Jaya be given a chance at a prosperous life through good education.

Jaya is now very regular and involved in the School activities. Her shy smile has now changed to a confident and self assured one. She has reached Grade 4, and works hard to cope with the increasing study load. She is a pleasant and helpful child and takes care of all the other younger ones, keeping a good eye out for them. Jaya would also like to be a doctor someday. We hope that through support and help we will be able to guide her to her goal!”
